Fabulous Monday off yesterday and had a #cozy #fallday starting with his #breakfast of #coffee with #oatmilk topped with #coconut whipped cream, Thomas muffin with #cinnamonbun spread. It was a fun #traderjoeshaul. Loving and finally using my #cozyqueen #mug. Present from @trilogymom . Thanks!🧡🧡🧡
2019 BOOK 25 | If you love Chicago, Food Network, HGTV, Sex And The City, architecture and culture, then you might enjoy #recipefordisaster. It was a light fun #romcom and #chicklit but well-written and with good substance. PLOT (Warning-- minor plot reveal but there are many fun twists and turns in the story.) Anneke's current life was perfect. She was engaged to a celebrity chef, living at an apartment in Chicago that she designed herself and enjoying her career as a builder despite working in a male-dominated firm with chauvinistic, a$$hole of a boss. She and her fiance also invested in a stately house circa 1800s that they were planning to flip when it was finished. Anneke really enjoyed working on it during her spare time. Anneke's world shattered completely in one day. She decided to quit her job without first royally telling her boss and co-workers exactly what she thought of their character, cars and genitalia. (This part was hilarious!) When she got home she found her celebrity fiance in the shower at their apartment with (?). Anneke had to learn how to fend for herself after the break up and job loss. She has 3 loyal girlfriends who loved and spoiled her despite her flaws. Anneke was crass, insensitive and ungrateful at times. Given her unhappy childhood, it was almost understandable. As someone who loves to eat and cook, I enjoyed the foodie aspect of the book from Anneke's kitchen, her friend's gourmet cooking and the foodie girls' nights out all over Chicago. The home decor and renovation parts were nice but the details made it a little tedious to read. I also really liked the magical addition of finding Gemma's diary. Gemma was the cook at the old Victorian mansion that Anneke was renovating. She provided Anneke with wise and practical advice and taught her how to cook. Nothing supernatural but just pure serendipity. A cute #lovestory as well. It was a great #holidayread as the story concluded around the holidays with the expected drama, bombshells and delish feast. I finished the book today and really enjoyed reading it. It was a great way to spend my Monday off. #fallread #bookstagram #bookreview #stacyballis #cozyread

2019 BOOK 24 | I read In Deep Voodoo to get me in the mood for #fall and #halloween. Set in fictional Mojo, Louisiana which is outside of New Orleans, Penny owns a health food store across from her former stately home which she lost after her divorce from her cheating husband. Her employee gave her a Divorce Party on the same week of the Voodoo Festival, Mojo's version of Mardi Gras. It went downhill from there after Penny found her husband dead in the same house where they used to live together, on the same evening of the Divorce Party where Penny was convinced by her friends to stab a voodoo doll resembling her ex-husband for fun. Penny became the main suspect. Enter a sexy private investigator from New Orleans who fell for Penny and tries to clear her. And a kickass female lawyer who has a story of her own. In Deep Voodoo was a fun read to kick start Halloween. It is supposed to be humorous and cozy. I did not find it funny but the plot was unique and engaging. The setting was cozy enough such as living at an apartment above a beignet shop. However, it was not a real #cozymystery as the voodoo rituals were dark involving animal sacrifices. The story is also about human trafficking. 2019 BOOK 23 | Who would have thought that knitting could be deadly?! Two rival knitters, one ends up dead, one a suspect. #whilemyprettyoneknits is the first book in the #blacksheepknittingmystery series. Maggie, the owner of the Blacksheep Knitting Company, was accused of the murder of her rival, Amanda, who was the owner of another knitting shop. Her 4 girlfriends to her rescue. Plenty of eating delicious appetizers and drinking wine while plotting and investigating to rescue Maggie. Definitely a #cozyread even if I am not a knitter. Maybe someday I will learn how to knit! This book accompanied me while on a work travel to Pasadena. #cozymystery #bookstagram #bookphotography #minibookreview #annecanadeo #knittingmystery (By the way, I enjoyed an inroom dining of delicious vegan ravioli with fried onions while reading this #book.)
