BF’s Birthday Dinner Part 2/ Date Night: 01.31.15
Among the hundreds of restaurants that the BF and I have tried in the Bay Area, House of Prime Rib remains to be up there on our list of favorites.
The House of Prime Rib is not just about the food. (Yes, the prime rib just melts in your mouth!) It is about the whole experience of dining at this iconic San Francisco restaurant that has been around since the 1940’s. It is so popular that even Anthony Bourdain paid it a visit during his show “No Reservations.”
HPR is all about the old-school San Francisco dining experience and of course, the 21-day dry aged Prime Rib. There are 4 cuts to choose from which are priced between $39 to $44. The BF and I opted for the bigger cuts:
♡ House of Prime Rib Cut $42 for me: Thick and hearty.
♡ King Henry the VIII $44 for the BF: Described as “extra-generous, thick cut of prime beef, for king size appetites. This is the biggest cut.”
Each cut of prime rib came with the following:
- Sourdough Bread
- Salad (lettuce, beets, etc with vinaigrette dressing)
- Yorkshire Pudding
- Mashed Potato with Gravy or Baked Potato
- Creamed Spinach
As soon as the piping hot fresh LOAF OF SOURDOUGH BREAD was placed on our table, the BF and I devoured it with butter.
The ITALIAN SALAD came next. It was chilling in an iced bowl and tossed/served table-side individually.
The warm CORNBREAD was next. HPR bakes their cornbread fresh every 20 minutes. Delicious!
The MASHED POTATO WITH GRAVY was creamy. The same goes for the CREAMED SPINACH. Both were delicious!
A cart comes to each table and the PRIME RIB is carved and individually placed on our plate. The traditional YORKSHIRE PUDDING completes the meal.
If you finish your prime rib, they give you a smaller cut on the house!
I am not even a big carnivore but House of Prime Rib is something I look forward to going back to year after year. Another enjoyable dining memory with my guy. This is his second birthday dinner. The BF finished everything including the extra cuts while I took mine home and had it for another meal. Lucky guy and he knows it! 😉
