FOOD CRUSH # 9: GOLDEN ERA VEGAN RESTAURANT (SAN FRANCISCO)
I am not vegan but I love eating veggies and healthy meals. I was ecstatic when I found out that Golden Era Vegan relocated to the Tenderloin neighborhood which is not far from work. I have been here 3 times since it first opened.
First time was with my former boss and coworkers, I had the:
30. Sai Gon Rice Plate $9.25
Seasoned shredded tofu, soy protein, and *tofu cake served over rice w/ side salad.
Then I came back with Kai to plan her baby shower over lunch. I tried the:
S9. Rainbow Salad (GFO) $8.50
*Romaine lettuce, *carrot, cucumber, tomato, roasted *corn, onion, & tofu..
Then I took my bestie amiga Edelmira for her birthday lunch. I ordered the:
62. Spicy Asian Stew $10.50
Soy protein, sweet potato, daikon, & *carrot cooked in Asian spices & basil.
I am so thrilled that I could enjoy a Thai Iced Tea because it is made of soy milk instead of dairy that I am allergic to.
3.Thai Iced Tea $4.95
I am going to go back again because every single item I had was really tasty and healthier without the meat and dairy. And I enjoy eating the faux meat and compare them to the real beef or chicken. And most importantly, Golden Era does not put MSG in their food! Big plus for me who is sensitive to MSG. (We are talking about extreme thirsts, headache and water retention here! Not pleasant.) The dishes are very generously portioned for mostly under $10 while the venue is nice and serene when it is not packed with the lunch crowd.
