Date Night Staycation: October 12-13, 2013

My guy and I decided to stay overnight in Santa Cruz while attending a wedding in the area. He surprised me with a reservation at Seascape.

Upon driving into the property, the resort resembled a huge apartment or condominium complex.

Right outside our room, the sprawling grounds of lush green grass extended to a hiking trail above the beach. Needless to say, the million dollar view was spectacular. I am still not still so sure though if the $450 per night room rate for our 1 bedroom “villa” was worth it.

Our room was very spacious but it was hard to ignore the fact that it was very dated. The 80s decor badly needed a makeover. Our “villa” was equipped with a kitchen, fireplace, and private balcony facing the majestic Monterey Bay.

A resort fee was included in our bill for ammenities such championship golf, pool, etc although we did not get to use these facilities.

*Huge, clean and fully-equipped 1 bedroom “villa”
*A living room and separate family room
*Fireplace, TV, video games, CD player
*Private balcony with an awesome and spectacular view of Monterey Bay
*Barbecue pit while admiring the view
*Restaurant and bar on-site where we shared drinks and apps with friends
*The huge fireplace in the lobby was cozy and lovely.
*A small mall across from the hotel where a farmers market is held on Sundays, places to eat brunch, little boutiques, etc.

*Dated in 80s decor
*The bathroom is in the bedroom which is very inconvenient if you are sharing the place with friends and/or family
*Too pricey for what you get (I think.)

Despite everything, it was a wonderful staycation with my guy and a nice treat. We walked to the hiking trail and admired the beach from above. (No beach access from the “villas”.)

Then we drove about 21 miles to Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch.

Tips for a Romantic Stay:
•Do not forget to bring a bottle of wine or champagne. (Glasses are provided.)
•Pack a picnic basket and picnic on the grass while admiring the bay.
•Bring food for grilling on barbecue on the patio.

3 Hearts: A beautiful staycation but the resort was just okay.
