54 MINT (SF)

Tucked away behind the Old Mint, 54 Mint follows the architecture of the area – rustic with high ceilings, exposed pipes and red brick walls. The long granite bar with hanging cured meats transformed me to eateries in Europe.

The space is attractive while the ambiance is surprisingly laid-back. Service was efficient and friendly. We had the best seats by the huge windows overlooking the lofts in the plaza.

We had a very enjoyable dinner.

A complimentary bread basket and olive oil in flask was provided. I started off with an Italian red $12 (sangiovese blend) which was okay. I preferred a deeper red.

My guy had 2 bottles of frizante (bubbly water) $6/bottle. Pricey for H20 but the water was actually refreshing and sweet.

We had the following:

SUPPLí $12 tomato risotto croquettes, molten smoked mozzarella

*A really nice arancini appetizer which are fried risotto balls. Perfectly fried without a hint of oil and oozing with melted cheese.

SEA URCHIN SPAGHETTI $22
*An interesting dish. My pasta dish was light and  tasted of the sea. Uni is my favorite sushi and I think I prefer it raw instead of cooked as I had in this dish.

BISTECCA $28 11oz grilled grassfed ribeye, arugula salad, lemon

*My Carnivore really liked his steak.

TIRAMISÚ alle FRAGOLE $7 ladyfingers layered with fresh strawberries, mascarpone and Marsala

*My Carnivore also has a super-sweet tooth while I am not really into sweets. I had two teaspoons of this dessert and it was really nicely light and not too sweet. It was layered with soft cake with cream and fresh strawberries on top. My guy devoured this on his own.

CHECK: $128 including 2 bubbly waters, wine and tip

A really enjoyable meal on this warm summer day in the City.
