We really came to Old Oakland to have dinner at Miss Ollie’s, a Caribbean restaurant. However, after a not so pleasant experience with Miss Ollie’s hostess, we ditched the plan and just walked across the street where my guy spotted this pub.
What he was craving for was comfort food. Pacific Coast’s pubfare hit the spot for him but not so much for me.
We are not beer drinkers but since it’s a brewery, we decided to try a couple. I had ½ pint of the chocolate beer $5.5. I honestly like Trader Joe’s Chocolate Beer better. And I tasted my guy’s IPA which tasted too bitter. He had two sips of his ½ pint and left it alone.
– We shared a Crab and Artichoke Mushroom Caps topped with Cheddar $8
– Not knowing that my guy ordered the above appetizer, I had a Crab Melt on Toast with Fries $14. It tasted exactly like the appetizer except it was on bread.
-My guy had the day’s special of bratwurst and sauerkraut $13.
CHECK: ~$60 including tip
I was not too happy with the food. Typical pub fare but so uninspired. At least they used real crab.
The venue, though, was impressive. The sunny beer garden was perfect on a warm day like last Saturday. Ornate bar, brick walls, hardwood floors and historic pieces. Gotta find inspiration in the decor if one could not find inspiration in food. Just saying.
