Katsu curry $9.95 at Muracci’s Japanese Curry & Grill is #16 on 2009 to 2012 SF’s Big Eats 100 Things to Eat Before You Die List.
I am not an expert on Japanese curries but Muracci’s curry was pleasant and flavorful with nice spices. The thick curry comes separately in a plastic tub in order to keep the tender enough pork cutlet in crispy golden batter crunchy. I opted for nutty brown rice.
In my efforts to pursue a healthier lifestyle, I also tried the Tofu and Veggie Curry with Brown Rice $8.50. It was also very good but the katsu curry was addicting.
This lunch set also came with delicious pickled cabbage and marinated red peppers which added a nice kick and texture to the meal.
Muracci opens at 11 am. By 11:30 am, the line of FiDi workers was out the door. Muracci is a cramped hole-in-a-wall with about 7 stools facing the walls for eating. I suggest taking your food to Crocker Galleria because the venue is too small to eat comfortably.
