It is still winter here in the Bay Area even though spring is trying to break through. The temperature has dipped into the 30s this week. Even though it is often sunny, it is also pretty chilly.
It is also still definitely soup weather. I am happy to come upon a recipe for red split lentils soup while shopping at Trader Joe’s. My version (inspired by Trader Joe’s recipe which uses wine but I do not like wine in my cooking so I am omitting it) is very easy and quick. I am a fan of simple yet hearty meals as I do not have much time to cook with my very demanding job. I also believe that great food should not be fussy and complicated. This soup not only brings comfort to the soul but makes me feel like I am doing something kind for my body.
Saucy Oakland was one of those unexpected finds. The place is the size of a postage stamp. It seats about 20 people. When Mr Sweetie and I walked in, the place was filled with googly-eyed couples. They were obviously very much on date night mode. Who could blame them? The place was set to mood lighting that sets the tone for romantic dinner.
Restaurant Week in San Francisco brings sunshine to the dreary winter weather after the holiday festivities are over. BFF and I eagerly await Restaurant Week every January. We have been going for years. In fact, she told me that this has been our 11th year with Restaurant Week this year. During Restaurant Week, participating restaurants provide a prix fixe menu at discounted prices in order to entice customers to try their offerings.
I am so ready and excited for 2020! I believe that I am in a good mind frame to tackle this New Year. Before I do so, I would like to have one last look at December, most particularly Christmas week. This last week has gifted me with such beautiful memories that I will fondly look back on for years to come. I wrote about my December activities on this post — My Christmas List 2019. The last week of December can be summarized in one word: FAMILY.
While I am still working on my “2019 Year In Review” post, and there is a brief lull before 2020 starts hitting us full force, I thought that it is the perfect time to catch up on writing restaurant reviews. I do have a delicious back log of 2019 eats.
